Hubei Industrial Polytechnic (abbreviated as HBIP) is a public full-time institute, co-administrated by Hubei Province and Shiyan Municipal Government, which has held higher education for more than 40 years. It is one of the earliest independent higher vocational institutes founded by the country and Hubei Province, and it is also a national model key higher vocational institute and a model high quality higher vocational institute in Hubei Province.

TheInstitute is located in theurbanarea of Shiyan City, the northwest of Hubei Province, which is not only a famousmotorcity but also a tourist city and ecological city. ShiyanCityis the birthplace and important production base of Dongfeng Motor Group Corporation, a national mega corporation, in which there are Mountain Wudang, a world-famous cultural heritage and Taoist holy place, and Danjiangkou Reservoir, the largest artificial freshwater lake in Asia and the headstream of the Middle Route Project of South-to-North Water Diversion Project in China.

The Institute covers an area of nearly 1,000 mu, with a construction area of 230,000 square meters and a total asset value of more than 800 million Yuan. There are 9,000 full-time college students and nearly 500 full-time faculty members. Closely connected with the strategic layout of regional and industrial development, the Institute has set up such teaching units as Auto Engineering Department, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department, Intelligent Engineering Department, Architectural Engineering Department, Environmental Engineering Department, Tourism and Commerce Department and Art Design Department, under which there are 47 majors such as automobile, machinery, intelligence, architecture, environmental protection, tourism, business, art and design, of which more than 20 are key or characteristic majors at national and provincial levels.

The Institute attaches importance to exchange and cooperation. It has signed strategic cooperation agreements with more than 20 well-known enterprises at home and abroad, such as Dongfeng Industry, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle, Dongfeng Honda, China Unicom, China Telecom, Germany Bosch Automobile Testing Equipment (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., and General Electric Co., Ltd. of the United States, and has also established close cooperation partnership with more than 300 large and medium-sized enterprises, opening Sino-German Automotive Vocational Education（SGAVE）Electromechanical Experimental Class with five German automakers including German Volkswagen, and Sino-German Mechanical Technicians Class under the support and guidance of German Hans Seidel Foundation. In addition, theInstitute also carries out exchanges and cooperation with universities in Germany, the United States, Singapore, Australia and other countries. Learning advanced international vocational education experience, introducing and applying the mode of dual system and technicians training, it has vigorously explored the practice of curriculum development in the field of systematic learning based on the working process,hasdeepened the development and implementation of the curriculum of work-study combination,hasenhanced the reform of specialty school-running pattern and the mode of training talents, andhastaken measures in the construction of specialty courses, in which a series of achievements have been gained.

As one of the 100 National Key Higher Vocational Institutes, the Institute plays a radiating role in vocational education by constructing Higher Vocational Education Forum in Qinba Area, joined by 20 higher vocational colleges and institutes in the adjacent areas of Hubei Province, Chongqing Municipality, Shaanxi Province and Sichuan Province. With the Institute as the leading unit, such groups as "Hubei Automobile Service Vocational Education Group" and "Shiyan Modern Manufacturing and Service Vocational Education Group" have been established, which has contributed to the Institute’s great influence in the central and western regions of China, and a certain reputation in China, Germany, Australia and Southeast Asia.
